Apprentice - Robotics Experimentation

About this role

Origin builds autonomous robots for US construction, and this onsite Bengaluru apprenticeship in its quality team centres on running experiments on a robotic drywall-finishing system. The apprentice sets up trials, runs designed experiments on the spraying and sanding process, and turns results into findings that guide engineering decisions. The role also involves measuring manual effort in the experiment cycle and building simple automations in Python. Work mixes hardware, sensors, wiring, scripting and experimental method. It is a six-month contract-to-hire position, suited to recent or final-year engineering students with hands-on project experience.

What you'll do

  • Run hypothesis-driven and DOE-based experiments on robotic drywall finishing processes
  • Identify and isolate independent, dependent, controlled and confounding variables across physical trials
  • Maintain repeatability and reproducibility in measurements
  • Write experiment logs, test reports and result summaries
  • Assemble, wire, calibrate and maintain rigs, fixtures and end-of-arm tooling, and debug setup problems
  • Time the experiment cycle, propose automations, build simple ones in Python and write specs for larger ones

What you need

  • B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical/Electronics, Instrumentation, Industrial, Aerospace or Systems Engineering, completed or in final year (Applied Sciences or Experimental Physics with strong hands-on work may be considered)
  • 0–2 years of experience; substantial lab, research, thesis or competition projects count
  • Hands-on experience running physical trials and analysing the data
  • Python for data analysis and simple scripts
  • Comfort with wiring, sensors, small assemblies and hand tools
  • Experimental method fundamentals and clear written documentation
