Platform Engineering Apprentice - Linux

About this role

Origin builds autonomous robots for US construction, and its platform team keeps them running on live sites. The apprentice works with senior engineers on embedded Linux, networking, robotic middleware and cloud-connected services. Day to day this includes robot boot-up and service orchestration, Linux networking, Docker containers, and scripting for fleet diagnostics. The role is on-site in Bengaluru and suits early-career engineers with strong systems fundamentals and a hands-on internship or around six months of work experience.

What you'll do

  • Help build and debug robot boot-up sequences and service orchestration
  • Configure and troubleshoot Linux networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, iptables) for robot-to-cloud and inter-robot communication
  • Build, run and maintain Docker containers for robot and cloud deployments
  • Write bash and Python scripts for fleet diagnostics, log collection and routine tasks
  • Debug integration issues on real hardware with robotics, perception and application teams
  • Follow Git workflows, take part in code reviews and document your work

What you need

  • 0–1 years of experience, with at least one internship or about 6 months of hands-on software or systems work
  • Linux systems programming in C (file I/O, pthreads, sockets) and C++14/17
  • Networking fundamentals and tools such as ip, ping, ss, tcpdump and iptables
  • Docker, including Dockerfiles and docker-compose
  • Core data structures and algorithms, plus Python and Bash scripting
  • Git from the command line and strong Linux command-line comfort
  • No degree required; evaluated on skills, projects and work experience
