Use the 3-part answer
Say what happened, what you did about it, and where you are now. Keep it to 20 to 30 seconds and then move on.
"I had 2 backlogs in sem 3 and 4. I cleared both in my next attempt and my last 4 semesters are clear with 7.8 CGPA."Never blame, never lie
Do not blame teachers or luck. Companies verify marksheets and background, and a lie found later can cancel an offer. Own it in one line and show what changed.
Say: "I struggled with Engineering Maths and fixed my study method."Prove it with something recent
Mention a project, certificate or internship from the gap period, and have the link ready.
"During my 8-month gap I built a React + Node expense tracker and cleared AWS Cloud Practitioner. Here is the repo."Apply where you are eligible
Some drives need no active backlogs, others only need them cleared by joining. Read the eligibility on each drive page and the official posting before applying.

End by pointing forward, since interviewers remember the last sentence. Practise it aloud a few times.
"That phase taught me discipline. Now I am ready to work full-time and I can start immediately."
