AI/ML Engineer

About this role

AppZen makes autonomous spend-to-pay software that uses AI to read and decide on invoices, expense reports and card transactions. The AI/ML Engineer builds LLM-powered and agentic features and takes them from prototype to production. Work includes retrieval pipelines, tool calling, evaluation and deployment, alongside senior engineers, data scientists and product managers. The role is full-time and on-site in Pune. It suits engineers with 1–3 years of experience in ML/AI, including LLM applications.

What you'll do

  • Build and improve LLM-powered features and multi-step agentic workflows, for example with LangGraph
  • Build RAG pipelines covering chunking, embeddings, vector search and re-ranking
  • Implement function calling and API integrations that return validated structured outputs
  • Build evaluation datasets, metrics and automated tests for accuracy, hallucination, latency and cost
  • Deploy and monitor models and services using Docker and CI/CD
  • Work with senior engineers, data scientists and product managers, and contribute to code reviews

What you need

  • 1–3 years of experience building and deploying ML/AI solutions, including at least 1 year on LLM applications
  • Strong Python skills and experience building REST APIs such as FastAPI or Flask
  • Hands-on experience with LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex or similar, and LLM APIs or open-source models
  • Experience building RAG pipelines with vector databases such as Pinecone, Milvus, pgvector or FAISS
  • Solid ML and NLP fundamentals with PyTorch or a similar framework
  • Working knowledge of Docker, Git, CI/CD and a cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
