Frame Design Engineer - Tapeout Operations

About this role

GlobalFoundries is a semiconductor manufacturer, and this role sits in its Global Tapeout and Mask Organization in Bengaluru. The engineer supports tapeout operations, mainly designing frames for chips across different technologies and improving the processes behind them. Work involves coordinating with fab, application engineering, product engineering and release teams around the world. The engineer also uses and customizes software tools to automate frame generation and applies failure mode analysis to reduce risk. The role works an evening shift (3pm-12am) and includes weekend and holiday coverage on assigned dates.

What you'll do

  • Handle daily tapeout activities such as frame requirements, frame layout and generation, and change execution
  • Use or customize software tools to improve design productivity, including generating input files for automation
  • Decide whether to hold, escalate, promote or reject tapeout support issues with fab and other teams
  • Collaborate with application, product, release and design enablement teams
  • Suggest process improvements and automation opportunities
  • Document processes and assess failure modes with mitigation and detection

What you need

  • Master's degree in a related field, OR Bachelor's in EE/ECE with 1+ years of industry experience, OR engineering diploma with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of Unix shells and willingness to learn domain-specific scripting languages and data formats
  • Ability to work with cross-geographic, multi-cultural global teams
  • Fluent written and verbal English
  • Analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work the 3pm-12am shift and weekend/holiday coverage
  • Cadence Mask Compose, Virtuoso, SKILL and device layout experience are a plus
