About this role
Smiths Detection makes threat detection and security screening technology for aviation, ports and borders, defence and urban security. This Software Engineer role covers designing, coding, reviewing and optimising software components and services, using stacks such as Angular, Java, Spring Boot, Python or Golang. The engineer also works on DevOps, CI/CD and secure coding practices, and acts as a link between engineering, QA and other teams. The role needs office presence 4 days per week. It suits developers with about 1–4 years of experience.

What you'll do
- Solve complex technical problems and deliver scalable, maintainable solutions with minimal supervision
- Design, code, review and optimise critical software components and services
- Apply architectural patterns and design standards with key stakeholders
- Drive DevOps practices, automation, CI/CD and operational monitoring
- Promote secure coding and security controls across the SDLC
- Work with QA and other teams to design efficient testing strategies
What you need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
- 1–4 years of professional software development experience
- Proficiency in Angular (v10+), Java, Spring Boot, Python or Golang, plus HTML, CSS, JavaScript and TypeScript
- Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, PostgreSQL and Redis
- Experience with CI/CD, Docker, Git, Linux and automated testing frameworks
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure or GCP, and Agile methods with JIRA
- Strong English communication skills
