Software Engineering Intern (Blue Planet)

About this role

Ciena's Blue Planet software division builds OSS products, and this internship sits in the team that develops Fulfillment Resource Adapters. These adapters connect the Blue Planet Orchestrator and Inventory products to external network devices, using a container-based micro-services architecture. The intern writes micro-services, libraries and features, uses Generative AI in the work, and builds automated tests for adapter features. Day to day also includes fixing issues found in integration testing and customer deployments, and working with local and remote development, test, delivery and support teams. The role is based in Gurgaon and suits students enrolled in an engineering degree who are comfortable with Python on Linux and interested in telecom networks such as IP/MPLS, optical, 5G and SD-WAN.

What you'll do

  • Develop micro-services, libraries and features for Resource Adapters, device simulators, and tools that auto-generate data models and RA pipelines
  • Create automated test suites to validate Resource Adapter features
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues found during system integration testing and customer deployments
  • Collaborate with local and remote development, test, delivery and support teams
  • Take part in planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment and documentation

What you need

  • Actively enrolled in a bachelor's degree in Electronics, IT, Computer Science Engineering or equivalent
  • Python development in a Linux environment
  • Working knowledge of JSON, REST APIs, GitHub Copilot and computer networking
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as Docker, AWS or OpenStack
  • Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, algorithms and design patterns
