Software Development Engineer II

About this role

This role is in the Ordering Services team within Expedia Group's Travels Foundation platform, based in Gurgaon. The team owns the lifecycle of every trip order from checkout through post-booking, processing millions of orders and updates daily. As an SDE II, the engineer designs, builds and runs backend services for order creation, modification, fulfilment and lifecycle management. The work is hands-on: writing code, taking part in technical design discussions, and improving reliability alongside senior engineers. It suits backend engineers with about 2 or more years of experience.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop and maintain high-performance services and applications, delivering features end to end
  • Write clean, testable code, including low-level design, API design and data modeling
  • Work with peers, product and operations teams to turn requirements into technical solutions
  • Own the software lifecycle for your services, including code reviews, testing, deployment, monitoring and production support
  • Integrate and operate AI/ML-enabled solutions safely
  • Contribute to shared platforms, libraries and patterns reused across teams

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Hands-on experience with object-oriented and functional languages such as Kotlin or Java, plus data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with code reviews, unit/integration testing, CI/CD and observability
  • Ability to design and implement service or API-based solutions with basic data modeling
  • Experience working in an agile team and owning features from design to deployment
