About this role

IBM Research India runs a summer internship for students from leading technical universities, based in Gurgaon and Bangalore. Interns join current lab projects in AI and work through problems with guidance from mentors. Research areas include large language models, agentic systems built on small language models, testing and debugging of agents, software stacks for AI accelerator cards, and programmable language models. The internship runs for up to 3 months between May and August 2027 on a hybrid basis. It suits engineering or science students with solid Python and deep learning skills who are comfortable reading and implementing research papers.

What you'll do

  • Work on current IBM Research India projects in AI alongside mentors
  • Contribute to research and development in areas such as LLMs, agentic systems and AI accelerator software stacks
  • Work on testing and debugging of AI agents
  • Read and critically analyze research papers and implement ideas from them
  • Reproduce research results and design controlled experiments

What you need

  • Pursuing B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech (including Dual Degree) or Ph.D.
  • Minimum 70% or 7.0 CGPA in the current degree
  • Strong Python programming fundamentals
  • Solid understanding of machine learning and deep learning, with PyTorch proficiency
  • Familiarity with LLMs, generative AI, Transformers and NLP
  • Hands-on experience with VS Code, Jupyter Notebooks and Git
