About this role

IBM Research India and the IBM Software Innovation Lab run a summer internship program at their Gurgaon and Bangalore locations. The tracks cover AI and data, quantum algorithms, and AI research on language models and agents. Interns join ongoing lab projects and solve problems with guidance from mentors. Work areas include agentic AI for enterprise use, AI for IT automation, large language models, and quantum algorithm demonstrations on IBM Quantum hardware. It suits B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech or Ph.D. students with strong Python and ML or quantum foundations. The internship runs between May and August 2027 for up to 3 months.

What you'll do

  • Work on current lab projects alongside mentors
  • Contribute to research and development in AI, such as agentic systems, LLMs, and data and AI integration
  • Build innovation projects grounded in real-world datasets and enterprise problems
  • Implement quantum algorithms and demonstrations using Qiskit (Quantum Algorithms track)
  • Read research papers and implement their methods
  • Reproduce research results and design controlled experiments (AI Research track)

What you need

  • Currently pursuing B.E./B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech (including Dual Degree) or Ph.D.
  • Minimum 70% or 7.0 CGPA in the current degree
  • Strong Python skills and grounding in data structures, algorithms and problem solving
  • Solid base in linear algebra, probability and statistics, plus ML/deep learning fundamentals
  • Hands-on experience with VS Code, Jupyter Notebooks and Git
  • Track-specific: PyTorch/TensorFlow and LLM familiarity for AI tracks; quantum computing theory and Qiskit for the Quantum Algorithms track
