About this role

FTSE Russell builds the software behind financial indices used by institutions worldwide, and this team is developing its next-generation index data platform. The Associate Software Engineer writes, tests, reviews and improves production code, mainly in Python, alongside experienced engineers. Work spans APIs, shared libraries, Aurora PostgreSQL databases, AWS services, CI/CD and production support. The role is based in Bengaluru and suits early-career engineers with solid programming fundamentals and a willingness to learn Python and take on more ownership over time.

What you'll do

  • Write clean, maintainable production code, mainly in Python, with guidance from senior engineers
  • Build and enhance software components, services, APIs and shared libraries
  • Write automated tests and take part in code reviews
  • Investigate bugs and production issues and implement well-tested fixes
  • Work with relational databases such as Aurora PostgreSQL and build on AWS (Lambda, containers, object storage)
  • Use CI/CD pipelines and take part in design discussions with engineers and product colleagues

What you need

  • Software development foundation from internships, university or personal projects, open-source work or professional experience
  • Programming experience in Python or another modern language (Java, C#, C, C++, Scala, Go, Rust) and willingness to build Python skills
  • Understanding of core concepts: functions, classes, data structures, APIs, error handling, automated testing
  • Familiarity with Git and basic knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Analytical problem solving, good communication and openness to feedback
