AI Research Apprentice

About this role

Origin builds general-purpose autonomous robots for US construction, and this onsite Bengaluru apprenticeship is in its computer vision and AI team. The apprentice works on generative and multimodal learning behind the robots, including diffusion-based vision models, vision-language models and automated annotation pipelines. Work includes training segmentation and surface-quality models used in the field and preparing models for Jetson-class hardware. The apprentice also works with perception and robotics teams to bring research prototypes into ROS 2 stacks. It suits people with deep learning and computer vision coursework or research experience.

What you'll do

  • Design and train diffusion-based generative models for synthetic data
  • Train and improve segmentation and surface-quality models deployed on robots
  • Develop training objectives for Vision-Language-Action models linking work orders to segmentation masks and robot actions
  • Build large-scale auto-annotation pipelines for images and point clouds
  • Benchmark accuracy, latency and memory on Jetson-class hardware, compressing with distillation or LoRA
  • Integrate research prototypes into live ROS 2 stacks with perception and robotics teams

What you need

  • Strong foundation in deep learning, probabilistic modelling and computer vision through coursework or research
  • Hands-on experience with diffusion models (e.g. DDPM, Latent Diffusion) in PyTorch or JAX
  • Familiarity with multimodal transformers and VLMs such as CLIP, BLIP, Flamingo or LLaVA
  • Working knowledge of active learning, self-training, pseudo-labelling and annotation pipelines
  • Solid Python and PyTorch/Lightning coding skills with git workflows
