About this role
PhonePe is an Indian digital payments and financial services company, and this role sits in its Tech Infra & IT department. The engineer does first-level troubleshooting and escalation of incidents to keep the data center network running reliably. What you'll do
- Run network provisioning deployments and firewall configuration, including ACL management, periodic reviews and IPSec/NAT
- Perform periodic patching and OS upgrades for network switches, firewalls and servers
- Carry out network maintenance during off-peak hours
- Analyse performance and fine-tune network parameters with cross-functional teams
- Develop automation scripts and integrate tools for provisioning, monitoring and management
- Act as primary on-call engineer for network incidents and outages, file RCAs and serve as L1 escalation point
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Computer Science, IT or related field) or equivalent work experience
- 1-3 years of experience in network operations, network engineering or a related role
- Familiarity with data center topologies and routing/switching concepts such as BGP, OSPF, VLAN and VRRP
- Basic scripting and automation skills in Python, Go or Shell, and tools like Ansible or Salt
- Basic Linux knowledge (Ubuntu, RHEL) and web servers like Nginx and Apache2
- Experience with a 24x7 on-call rotation and handling critical incidents; strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
