About this role

PulseAI Research, powered by Smytten, is an AI-driven consumer intelligence and research platform that uses data from millions of shopper interactions to help brands make decisions. This backend internship is based in Bengaluru and lasts 4 to 6 months. The intern works on scalable backend systems, APIs and microservices, and on the infrastructure behind GenAI features such as LLM orchestration, RAG pipelines and guardrails. The intern works with AI/ML engineers, data scientists and product teams and owns production-facing modules. It suits pre-final or final year students with strong computer science fundamentals.

What you'll do

  • Design and build scalable, secure and fault-tolerant backend systems for enterprise AI applications
  • Build the orchestration layer connecting LLMs, models, data sources and enterprise apps
  • Develop high-performance APIs, microservices and asynchronous processing systems
  • Build GenAI backend infrastructure such as model gateways, RAG pipelines, vector retrieval, caching and evaluation
  • Engineer multi-tenant architecture with data isolation, access controls and API security
  • Work with AI/ML engineers, data scientists and product teams to turn research methods into software products

What you need

  • Pre-final or final year student of B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech/MCA or equivalent, graduating in the eligible batch
  • Available full-time for the entire 4-6 month internship (4 months minimum for PPO consideration)
  • Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, operating systems and databases
  • Backend development in Python, Java, Go, Node.js or equivalent
  • Familiarity with REST/gRPC APIs, SQL, caching, queues and cloud-native development
  • Prior internships, projects or open-source contributions are a plus
