About this role
WEX's engineering team works on an integrated model where development, quality and operations share ownership of delivery. This Software Development Engineer 1 role is based in Bangalore (remote office). The engineer writes and tests Java and JavaScript code, works with relational and NoSQL databases, and applies OOP principles and data structures to solve performance problems. The role also covers supporting live applications, peer code reviews and sprint planning. It suits engineers with some experience in software delivery and continuous delivery practices.

What you'll do
- Design, develop, test and deploy clean, maintainable code in Java and JavaScript
- Write optimised queries and design schemas for relational (MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases
- Apply OOP principles and design patterns to turn requirements into scalable modules
- Select data structures and algorithms to fix performance bottlenecks
- Write unit, integration and functional tests to reduce production defects
- Take part in code reviews and sprint planning, and support live applications
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in software engineering and delivery
- Understanding of continuous delivery principles and practices
- Proficiency in Java, JavaScript and Python
- Familiarity with Spring Boot or Hibernate
- Thorough understanding of OOP concepts
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines
