• Pick the right person

Message engineers 1-3 years ahead of you, ideally from your college or city. On LinkedIn, search the company, open People and filter by School. Send 5 to 8 messages per company, not just one.

    Search: "Software Engineer" Infosys
People → Schools → your college
  • Find the exact job first

A referrer needs a job ID or link. Open hirastra.com/today to see today's verified openings with official apply links, then quote the exact role in your message.

  • Write a short LinkedIn note

Connection notes are limited to about 300 characters on free accounts. Say who you are, one specific reason and a soft ask. Ask for advice first, and ask for the referral after they reply.

Hi Rahul, I'm a 2026 BTech grad from VIT. I saw the Backend Engineer opening (Job ID 12345) on your careers page. Could I ask 2 quick questions about your team?
  • Use a clear cold email template

Put the role and Job ID in the subject. Keep the body to 4 lines with one ask, a link to your project and your resume attached as PDF. Only use an email address that is publicly known.

Subject: Referral request: Backend Engineer (Job ID 12345)

    Hi Rahul,
I'm Asha, a 2026 CSE grad. I built a REST API project in Spring Boot (GitHub link). I'm applying for Job ID 12345. Would you be open to referring me? My resume is attached. Thank you for your time.
  • Follow up once, then say thanks

If there is no reply in 5 to 7 days, send one polite nudge and move on to the next person. If someone refers you, thank them and tell them the result. Never pay anyone for a referral.

Hi Rahul, just following up in case this got buried. Happy to share more details if helpful. Thanks either way!
