About this role

Abnormal Security makes AI-based products that protect organizations from email-borne cybercrime. This role is on the Message Security Products team in Bengaluru (hybrid), which is building new email security products on top of the core platform. The Software Engineer 1 does full-stack work with a strong backend focus, building services, APIs and some UI, plus data collection and background jobs. You will take projects through to delivery, keep them reliable and use AI development tools throughout. It suits engineers with about two years of experience who show initiative.

What you'll do

  • Build and ship features across the stack, mostly backend services and APIs with some UI work
  • Take over projects and drive them end to end with guidance from senior engineers
  • Build data and state handling, including data gathering and scheduled or background jobs
  • Fix bugs, add tests and monitoring, and help debug production issues
  • Work with Product, security, customer-facing and other engineering teams
  • Write documentation, runbooks and project write-ups

What you need

  • About 2 years of professional software engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Full-stack experience with a backend lean, including at least one UI project and one backend project
  • Backend development in Python and/or Go, including REST APIs
  • Working knowledge of relational databases
  • Hands-on experience with a cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure) and Docker, plus exposure to Kubernetes
  • Solid computer science fundamentals and awareness of logging, metrics and alerting
  • Fluency with AI development tools such as Cursor, Copilot and Claude
