About this role
PayPal's Unified Integration Platform team runs the enterprise data replication system that moves data at scale between PayPal data stores and external partners. This Data Engineer role in Bangalore involves building and running batch and streaming replication pipelines between on-prem and cloud stores. Day to day it covers tuning for throughput, latency and cost, handling schema changes and backfills, and building data quality checks and monitoring. The engineer also joins design reviews, code reviews, on-call and root-cause analysis. It suits someone with a few years of data or backend engineering experience.

What you'll do
- Design, build and maintain batch and streaming replication pipelines between on-prem and cloud data stores
- Tune pipelines for throughput, latency and cost
- Handle schema changes, backfills and failure recovery without data loss or duplication
- Build data quality checks, reconciliation, monitoring and alerting
- Onboard new data sources and targets with product, platform and consuming teams
- Take part in design reviews, code reviews, on-call and root-cause analysis
What you need
- Bachelor's degree with 1+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- 2-4 years in data engineering or backend software engineering
- Strong programming in Java, Python or Scala, and strong SQL
- Hands-on experience with distributed data processing and streaming (Kafka, Spark, Dataflow or similar)
- Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases, CDC and cloud platforms (GCP preferred)
- Understanding of data modelling, pipeline design and performance tuning
