Data Scientist (Data Visualisation)
About this role
The Mastercard Economics Institute is a team of economists and data scientists that combines anonymized, aggregated Mastercard network data with public data to produce economic insights for customers, partners and policymakers. This role sits in the Gurgaon office and reports to the team lead for Data Systems Engineering. Day to day, the person builds data visualisations that explain economic findings to different audiences and writes reusable code to support analysis and automation. They also produce analytical documents using R Markdown or Quarto. It suits someone with a year or more of visualisation experience who enjoys storytelling with data and working alongside engineers, product owners and economists.

What you'll do
- Create clear, compelling data visualisations that communicate economic insights to diverse audiences
- Develop reusable functions and packages to support analysis and automation
- Create and format analytical content using R Markdown and/or Quarto
- Write clear, well-documented code that others can understand and maintain
What you need
- 1–3 years of experience creating data visualisations
- Proficiency in R or Python
- Proficiency in using code to clean, transform and aggregate data
- Familiarity with version control concepts and tools for collaborative development
- Experience writing SQL and working with relational databases
- Ability to collaborate, work independently and prioritise across multiple projects
