Associate Data Engineer

About this role

This role sits in the data engineering team of TransUnion's Specialized Risk Group, which supplies consumer information used across several industries. The engineer works on improving the quality, accuracy and delivery of the group's core product. Day to day, that means building algorithms and solving customer needs on a big data platform, including the team's entity linking algorithms. In the first 90 days the person learns the big data environment and contributes to team discussions, then moves on to more complex algorithm work. The position is full-time and based in Pune on a hybrid basis, with at least two days a week in the office. It suits early-career graduates in computer science or a related field who are comfortable with Linux and Python and want to learn big data tools.

What you'll do

  • Improve the quality, accuracy and delivery of the core product
  • Build complex algorithms to meet customer needs

What you need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics or a related discipline
  • 0-1 years' experience with data ingestion, analysis, integration and design
  • 0-1 years' experience with big data platforms such as Hadoop, MongoDB, Cassandra, HPCC or Cloud Bigtable, or NoSQL approaches
  • Experience with Python, C++/C, PySpark, PyDoop and/or PyScala (0 years listed)
  • 1+ years' experience with Linux, Bash scripting and/or PERL
  • Collaborative approach and willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
  • Able to work hybrid from the Pune office at least two days a week
