SDE II, Data Engineering

About this role

This role is in JioStar's Data Engineering team, which runs the data infrastructure behind the JioHotstar OTT platform. The systems take in very high request volumes, process billions of Kafka events daily and store petabytes in a data lake. The engineer builds features for ingestion, processing, governance, observability and storage, working with senior engineers. The work also includes data pipelines that support AI model training and AI agents. It is based in Bengaluru and suits engineers with a few years of data engineering experience.

What you'll do

  • Develop features for data ingestion, processing, governance, observability and storage systems
  • Build components for scalable, real-time event collection systems
  • Implement data pipelines for AI model training and AI agents, ensuring data quality and reliability
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code
  • Improve existing systems and services
  • Help find and implement performance optimizations for ingestion, storage and processing

What you need

  • Hands-on experience with Spark, Flink or similar frameworks for batch and streaming
  • Experience with Kafka, Kinesis or equivalent messaging and stream platforms
  • Working knowledge of a major cloud platform (AWS preferred)
  • Solid SQL plus experience with relational and NoSQL databases
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines with tools like Airflow or Prefect
  • 2-4 years of software engineering experience, at least 2 in data engineering (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Python, Java, Scala or Go
