About this role
The Unified Notification Platform team sits in PayPal's Core Platform organization and lets PayPal businesses reach customers and merchants by SMS, email, push notifications, alerts and webhooks. It is a large distributed system that sends billions of notifications every month. The backend engineer builds and enhances platform features, works through complex architecture and design, and fixes reported issues. The role involves working with several stakeholders to understand business and customer needs. It suits engineers with a few years of Java and web-services experience who are interested in scalability and throughput.

What you'll do
- Take part in feature development and enhancements on the notification platform
- Build domain knowledge and solve scalability and throughput problems
- Join design discussions and give input
- Provide fixes for issues and bugs reported against the platform
- Follow established SDLC conventions and contribute to code and design reviews
What you need
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with 1+ years of relevant experience
- 1-4 years of software development experience
- Strong algorithms, data structures, OOP, design patterns and multi-threaded programming
- Hands-on Java (Core Java, J2EE, Spring) and building RESTful services/microservices
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills; interest in large-scale distributed stream processing
