About this role

This role is in Target's Merchandising product engineering group (Pyramid) in Bengaluru, which provides data and aggregation services for pricing, promotions, items, suppliers, owned brands and merchandise planning. The engineer builds scalable backend applications and services on the JVM and Python, and owns assigned features through to production. The work also involves integrating LLMs and GenAI features into applications, reducing hallucinations and building agentic automation. Monitoring, observability and secure coding are part of the routine. It suits backend engineers with 2-4 years of experience who want to add GenAI to their work.

What you'll do

  • Develop scalable applications and services and contribute to their design and implementation
  • Own assigned tasks and features, making sure solutions are production-ready, deployable and resilient
  • Put observability in place and use operational data to improve stability and performance
  • Follow secure coding practices and address security issues
  • Integrate LLMs and GenAI-powered features into core applications
  • Build systems that reduce hallucinations and improve AI reliability, including agentic frameworks and automation

What you need

  • 2-4 years of experience in software design and development, focused on scalable backend applications
  • Hands-on Java and Python, with JVM experience including Kotlin
  • Experience with microservices and Spring Boot or Micronaut
  • Experience integrating LLMs and GenAI, including agentic frameworks and OpenAI APIs/SDKs
  • Knowledge of messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and databases (Cassandra, MongoDB, PostgreSQL)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, unit and integration testing, cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure), Docker and Kubernetes
