About this role

Expedia Group's Clickstream team in Gurgaon builds the data platform that captures user behaviour across Expedia Group sites and apps, which feeds analytics, marketing and personalisation. As a Software Development Engineer II, you will design, build and operate real-time streaming services and data pipelines, mainly in Java and Kotlin, on public or hybrid cloud. The work covers microservices, data APIs, testing, monitoring and fixing complex production issues. You will work with product managers, data engineers and analysts, and help mentor junior engineers. The role needs at least 2 years of professional backend experience, so it is not an entry-level opening.

What you'll do

  • Design, build and operate low-latency streaming services and data pipelines in Java/Kotlin
  • Write well-tested code, pair program and conduct code reviews
  • Build and evolve microservices and data APIs for analytics and personalisation
  • Implement monitoring, alerting and observability, and troubleshoot production issues
  • Contribute to technical design documents and mentor junior engineers

What you need

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of professional software development, including building backend microservices in Java
  • Hands-on experience with streaming platforms such as Kafka, Kinesis or Pub/Sub
  • Experience building production data processing applications on AWS, GCP or Azure
  • Solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, concurrency and distributed systems
  • Proficiency in testing strategies, CI/CD, monitoring and incident management
